The deadline of 1st January has now expired and for some of you this will mean that the race is on to replace or convert your existing R22 systems. As we’ve mentioned before, the sale of R22 refrigerants was banned in 2004, but the maintenance and service of this equipment was still legal until last week. Now R-22 equipment can no longer be legally serviced or maintained. This means if your system breaks down . . . you will not be able to get a man out!
The effect of the R22 phase out has finally hit home for most businesses, as new sources of R22 have already been prohibited. The demand for reclaimed R22 is likely to outstrip supply levels in the next couple of months.
Stocks are running low and will soon be completely unobtainable and you know what that means! Prices are sky rocketing. At this point it’s actually more cost effective to replace your system than to try and get hold of reclaimed R22. Some repairs will not be possible anyway and system downtime is inevitable. Therefore you need to replace your R22 systems as soon as possible, or risk compromising your system maintenance.
