Air quality in the UK has substantially improved in the last 30 years, and although many persistent – and also many new – challenges in reducing emissions still exist, the improvement is largely down to hard work and dedication in developing innovative technology, monitoring and policy.
The UK government is now drawing up a new plan to achieve EU objectives on air pollution, while it also has the threat of legal action from Europe hanging over it’s head. In addition, the EU is discussing updates to air quality legislation that could see stricter targets introduced.
Therefore, with UK air quality coming under the spotlight, there is now more incentive than ever to continue developing ways to clean up the air we breathe, which will also help boost the green economy.
The National Air Quality Awards seek to give value and recognition to those who make these special efforts to boost air quality, whether in the public, private or charity sector.
The winners will be announced at a ceremony on the 22 October in Bristol.
